    On the basis of first-principles calculations, we demonstrate the potential application of silicene as a highly sensitive molecule sensor for NH 3, NO, and NO 2 molecules. NH 3, NO and NO 2 molecules chemically adsorb on silicene via strong chemical bonds. With distinct charge transfer from silicene to molecules, silicene and chemisorbed molecules form charge-transfer complexes.

    Mar 01, 2016 · The nanocomposite sensors revealed sensitive (sensitivity of ∼6.2%/ppm in the range of 1–10.7 ppm of NH 3, detection limit of ∼257 ppb), selective and repeatable response to NH 3, and the sensing mechanism has been explored. This work could provide references for the facile preparation of advanced gas sensors based on in situ grown nanostructured metal-oxide semiconductors and their composites.

    Abstract. We have increased organic field-effect transistor (OFET) NH 3 response using tris (pentafluorophenyl)borane (TPFB) as a receptor. OFETs with this additive could detect concentrations of 450 ppb v/v, with a limit of detection of 350 ppb, the highest sensitivity reported to date for semiconductor films; in comparison, when triphenylmethane (TPM) or triphenylborane (TFB) was used as an additive, no obvious improvement in the sensitivity was observed.
